Local filmmaker Steven Roby will host a free showing of his new movie, “Living on a Rock: A Big Island Music Story,” at Honokaa People’s Theatre from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 19.
In the documentary Roby interviewed 25 Hawaii Island musicians and industry professionals including North Kohala slack key master John Keawe, Grammy winner Charles Michael Brotman, 40-year director of Honokaa Jazz Band Gary Washburn and others from Kona, Waimea, North Kohala, Ahualoa, Honokaa and Hilo.
Many of the performances in the film come from the three-day Ohana Fest in Waikoloa last August, as well as interviews with archival photos from NHERC and aerial videos from the Island of Hawaii Visitors Bureau.
